Ms Smith had been working with the Platform2 charity to help construct schools in the country.

Based in the village of Lamatar, eight miles from the capital city, the 22-year-old had been enjoying a weekend off in the city when the accident happened.

In a statement, the group said: “Platform2 can confirm that a tragic accident on Saturday December 4th led to the death of a volunteer in Kathmandu, Nepal.

“The volunteer fell from a hotel window resulting in fatal injuries. The accident occurred while away from the Platform2 project on a weekend off.
