A British teenager has been found dead in a French ski resort after he did not return to his family’s chalet following a night out, according to reports.

The 18-year-old man, who was on holiday with his parents in the resort of Val d’Isère,  was last seen leaving a bar in the resort in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police and mountain rescuers launched a search later that day and are thought to have discovered his body at 2.30pm on Wednesday.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in France.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”

Police have launched an investigation into the death.

Val d’Isère, in south-eastern France near the border with Italy, is a popular destination with British tourists.
