The Best Western Honest Lawyer hotel in Durham has just re-opened its doors after a multi-million pound refurbishment programme following last years floods.
All the 52 bedrooms have not just been lovingly restored to a high standard using a contemporary style and modern facilities. A palette of warm red, brown and purple has been chosen to ensure a welcoming feel. The rooms now also have 40” televisions of which six have four poster beds.
The 175 cover restaurant has been reopened and offers a delicious selection of traditional and modern cuisine. The head chef, Harry Bailie who trained at The Ritz in London, aims to make the restaurant a destination in its own right and offers his unique twist on British classics such as Black Sheep Battered Fish and Chips.
The lounge areas have been opened up to create an open plan area downstairs that is separated into smaller, cosy seating areas featuring open fires and traditional furniture, perfectly balancing comfort with modern style.
Externally two terraces have been created in the fully landscaped gardens so guests could enjoy one of the locally sourced beers outside in the summer.
The hotel is located just two miles south of Durham, so is ideally located for a weekend away exploring the historic city. Beautiful walks can be picked up from the hotel directly into the city centre, perfect for a relaxing weekend away.
Chris Bowron, General manager of the Best Western Honest Lawyer Hotel said: “The hotel has had a major cosmetic facelift, but this is not just style over substance. Our restaurant will become a destination in its own right and we aim to offer the very best customer service in the North. We will be a unique hotel as it has a stylish boutique style but also very family friendly offering personal service.”
A new meeting room has also been added to the first floor, the Bridge Suite, which accommodates up to 50 delegates theatre style.
