Bahrain protestors enter Pearl Square

Anti-government protesters in Bahrain have returned to Pearl Square, the centre point of protests in the capital Manama.

Protesters resumed occupation after riot police fired tear gas and shotgun rounds before withdrawing. According to reports up to 60 people may have been injured.

Bahrain’s crown prince is holding initial talks with opposition parties, including the main Shia opposition parties in the Sunni-ruled Gulf state

Bahrain is one of several Arab countries to have experienced pro-democracy demonstrations since the fall of long-time President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January. Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak stepped down from power on 11 February.
