Anchorage boasts highest car rental rates in the USA

The city of Anchorage, in Alaska, boasts the highest car rental rates in the United States, according to the latest survey from CheapCarRental.net. The survey compared and ranked 50 destinations in the USA based on their car rental rates for the summer period spanning June to August 2012.

In Anchorage, the average rate for the cheapest available car was $95 per day. At that price, Alaska’s largest city came in slightly ahead of Honolulu, Hawaii, where the daily rate was $94. Third most expensive was Washington, D.C. with an average rate of $81.

Where are car rental rates most affordable? With average daily prices of $35 and $32 for the cheapest available car, Los Angeles and Las Vegas came in among the bottom of those cities ranked. Least expensive according to the survey are rental rates in Columbus, Ohio with an average of only $28 per day.

The following table shows the ten most expensive destinations to rent a car in the USA. The prices shown coincide with the average daily rate for the cheapest available car in each city. Each respective city’s airport was chosen as the Pick Up and Drop Off location.
