Amadeus strengthens commercial structure for EMEA with key Vice President appointments

Amadeus, the leading transaction processor and provider of advanced technology solutions for the global travel and tourism industry, today announces the promotion of both Angel Gallego and Holger Taubmann to Vice President, with the two positions reporting to Philippe Chéréque, Amadeus Executive Vice President, Commercial.

The appointments mark the strengthening and further commitment of Amadeus to the EMEA region by dividing the area into two sub-regions, both of which will be headed by senior and experienced Amadeus executives. To this end, Western Europe, Middle East and Africa will be led by Gallego; while Northern, Central and Eastern Europe (including DACH[1], CESE[2] and Scandinavia) and will be headed by Taubmann.

“Having experienced tremendous growth in both our distribution and IT businesses across the EMEA region over the past five years, and with good prospects for further growth, we felt that it was an important time to divide our EMEA region into two sub-regions. This allows our management to maintain close proximity to our customers, the market place and employees, in order to focus on continued customer satisfaction, emerging customer needs and future growth opportunities. We firmly believe that the future of Amadeus requires a well-balanced strategy that combines growth in our distribution business with bold diversification into IT. We are confident that an empowered regional structure will make an important contribution to driving this strategy in these key regions,” commented Philippe Chérèque, Amadeus Executive Vice President, Commercial. He continued “We are confident that Amadeus’ customers in these regions will benefit from Angel and Holger’s extensive experience in the travel industry.”

Angel Gallego was appointed Director of Western Europe in 2006 and was in charge of driving and implementing Amadeus’ strategy for Western Europe. He was previously appointed to the same position for Latin America and joined Amadeus in 2000 from American Express where he held several pan-European senior roles. Gallego graduated in Law from the University of Madrid in 1992 and from Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI) with an MBA.

Holger Taubmann was appointed General Manager of Amadeus Germany in January 2004. Prior to that, he was Director Airline Marketing and Sales and became responsible for global airline account management, sales and distribution in 1997. Taubmann holds a degree in Economics and trained with Lufthansa in commercial airline management (“Luftverkehrskaufmann”), where he held several positions prior to joining Amadeus Central Headquarters in 1997.
