Abu Dhabi has been preparing a series of mouth-watering events ahead of the nail-biting Formula 1 season finale which takes place in the emirate on November 14th.
A city-wide programme of events has been organised to ensure fans of all varieties are entertained before and during the season curtain-call.
“The Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has instigated unprecedented co-operation between all of the emirate’s entertainment stakeholders,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, events manager at Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).
“While we are expecting interest to peak during race days, the extended catalogue of events and activities should ensure Abu Dhabi’s residents and visitors are spoilt for choice in the build-up to our second Formula 1 race.”
The United Arab Emirates capital’s stunning Yas Marina Circuit will be the fulcrum of Grand Prix-related activity during the event.
With most fans’ attention set on the main racing spectacle, those seeking adrenaline-filled pursuits away from the track can enjoy a horde of sideline activities dotted around the circuit and in the adjoining F1 Village.
“We have created a wide range of entertainment for visitors alongside the on-track action - the whole weekend will be one big family festival of motorsport,” said Richard Cregan, Yas Marina Circuit chief executive officer.
Live music from local and international artists – including energetic performances by industry-leading beatboxer Killa Kela and hip hop dancers Swat Crew - break-dance and skateboard workshops, bungee trampolines, BMX bike trick shows, and purpose-built climbing walls will all be on offer.
The all-new Yas Kart Track also opens its doors – for eight to 18-year-olds - for Grand Prix weekend, while the gravity-defying players of Acrodunk – a high-flying blend of basketball and trampolining – will be hitting hoops and sinking baskets in the sport’s Abu Dhabi debut.

The not-to-be missed Yas concert arena will also see shows from Kanye West, Linkin Park and Price during the weekend.
Elsewhere, in a series of concerts organised by Flash Entertainment - the Abu Dhabi-based live events specialists – three top-tier acts will perform intimate and exclusive night-time sessions at The Yas Hotel, the lavish five-star property sitting within the circuit’s borders.
London soul singer, Gabrielle, takes to the stage on Friday, British pop stars, Sugababes, on Saturday, while female soloist Corinne Bailey Rae completes the tickets-only line-up in the hotel’s Longitude Bar.
Chequered Flag Ball
ADTA is also title sponsor of the must-attend Chequered Flag Ball, which takes place at the InterContinental Hotel Abu Dhabi on the November 12th.
With world-renowned UK R&B singer Beverly Knight and racing legend Eddie Jordan, with his four piece band, Eddie and The Robbers, headlining the event’s entertainment, and with a host of the biggest celebrity names from the world of music, sport and film in attendance, it will be a major race week highlight.
In addition, ADTA is running a city wide mall activation programme giving racing fans the chance to win tickets to the Grand Prix by posting the fastest times on state-of-the-art driving simulators.
The much anticipated Ferrari World will be open ahead of the event
For those seeking a different variety of thrills and spills, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – the world’s largest indoor theme park – will officially open for business.
The attraction has more than 20 rides lying under its mammoth 200,000 m2 roof, including the Formula Rossa rollercoaster, which powers to 240 kmph in less than five seconds, and G-Force, an exhilarating tower ride that shoots thrill-seekers 62 metres in the air.
The experience provides the same G-force as that of racing a Ferrari.
With general ticket prices ranging from US$61 for guests above 1.5m, and US$45 for guests below 1.5m, a special multiple-entry race week package has been put together for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“For visitors attending the Grand Prix and perhaps staying on Yas Island, this is a perfect entertainment package,” said Troy Lindquist, sales and marketing director, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
World Travel Awards
Ahead of the Grand Prix there is also one more exciting item on the agenda – the matter of the World Travel Awards Grand Final.
Taking place in London on November 7th, the Abu Dhabi Tourist Board is nominated in several leading categories including World’s Leading Marketing Campaign and World’s Leading Tourist Board.
