ABB completes acquisition of rail business from RGM

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group announced that it has completed the acquisition of the rail vehicle power business of Italy-based RGM S.p.A.

The acquisition of RGM’s rail vehicle power business advances ABB’s strategy to strengthen its position as a major supplier to train manufacturers and rail operators.

RGM is well known in Italy as a reliable supplier of auxiliary converters for underground rail, light rail vehicles, and mainline trains and locomotives. ABB plans to integrate the acquired product lines in its Discrete Automation and Motion division.

“Customers will gain access to the premium products of RGM Polycontrol through the strong sales and support network of ABB. Further, customers have a single point of contact with ABB for a much wider product portfolio. ABB can reinforce the RGM investment in R&D accelerating the development of RGM Polycontrol’s new technologies,” says Remo Luetolf, Head of the Power Electronics and Medium Voltage Drives business unit, where RGM Polycontrol will be integrated.

“We are very glad that the RGM Polycontrol team has found a new home in ABB. With ABB’s resources the RGM Polycontrol team can extend the reach of its offering and grow further,” said Giuseppe Guerra, owner and CEO of RGM.
