21 feared dead in Chile air crash

A Chilean Air Force plane with 21 people on board has crashed into the Pacific Island en route to the remote Juan Fernandez Islands, according to reports

It is thought that the Casa-212 plane had attempted to land twice at the island’s airport before it went missing in windy, rough conditions.

A five-strong television crew was on board the plane, including one of Chile’s most popular television presenters Felipe Camiroaga (pictured).

The team, who worked for the state television programme - Buenos Dias a Todos - Good Morning Everyone -  were filming a programme on reconstruction projects following the earthquake and tsunami in February 2010 that devastated the islands.

It is thought that the plane crashed leaving no survivors, after wreckage was spotted, including luggage in waters near to the islands. Rescue boats are still searching for the plane.
