PriceTravel signs tourism child protection code of conduct

PriceTravel, Mexico’s most innovative online and wholesale travel agency, is the first travel agency in Quintana Roo to take a stand against the commercial sexual exploitation of children by signing the Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct (The Code) in collaboration with the Riviera Maya Hotel Association.

The initiative, designed to help prevent and mitigate child trafficking and encourage a socially responsible tourism industry, is part of PriceTravel’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility.  PriceTravel was recently recognized with the ESR designation by Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía (CEMEFI) and Alianza por la Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (AliaRSE) for its social responsibility efforts.

As a subscriber to The Code, PriceTravel commits to providing training to help its employees and partners identify and report trafficking activities. PriceTravel will also raise awareness among its business partners and customers by including information about the The Code throughout its websites, kiosks and marketing materials, and by annually reporting on its progress.

“The safety of all children and prevention of child trafficking is a top priority for the PriceTravel family,” said Oliver Reinhart, CEO of PriceTravel.  “It is particularly important for the tourism industry to embrace this cause.  We hope our efforts encourage others to join The Code in the fight against the sexual exploitation of children and raise awareness of this serious issue.”

The Code is an industry-driven responsible tourism initiative co-funded by the Swiss Government (SECO) and the tourism private sector, and supported by the ECPAT International network. UNICEF and UNWTO act as advisory partners for The Code. Over the last decade, The Code has received wide international recognition as an instrument of social responsibility and child protection in tourism, being acknowledged with distinctions including the Tourism for Tomorrow Award (2003), the Ending Human Slavery Award (2008), the Ethical Corporation Award (2010), and the Business-Leaders Award to Fight Human Trafficking (2010). The Code has been signed by more than 1,000 travel industry members worldwide, representing more than 43 countries in Europe, North and Latin America, Asia and Africa and continues growing steadily.
