How to Get in Shape for the Summer
The summer season is just around the corner, and it’s time to shed that extra winter weight. Along with diet, exercise is a key to getting into shape, and there are some machines, exercise-bikes and cross trainers, that can provide the needed workout. For women cross trainers and exercises cycles have certainly proven their worth, but what about the guys? How does a girl rouse “him” from his winter stupor and get him moving? Well, the same machines that are such a boon for women will work for the men, too.
Stationary cycles have been around since the 18th Century, so most guys have at least a passing familiarity with the machines, even if they don’t know exactly how to use an exercice bike. But, when they see women cross trainers in action it can throw the poor fellas for-a-loop, one that threatens to plop them right back on the couch. Therefore, it’s best to start simply, and show him the rudiments of how ti use a exercice bike and establish a solid level of conditioning before moving him on to an elliptical trainer.
When it comes to exercise bikes, the beginning is the end and, in this case, that means the end that goes on the bicycle seat. An often-overlooked first step, but a very important one, is to make sure that the seat is adjusted to fit the rider. Once you’ve got him comfortable on the bike the resistance settings can gradually be increased to suit the intensity of the workout. The low-impact nature of an exercise bike will give him the “burn” without burning him out, and it is exercise that can be performed on a bike at home, or on one kept at work, or on the machines that are available at the gym. Help him pedal his way into the active summer life and everyone will benefit from the sleek new “him” that emerges from winter hibernation.
