British Airways is delaying any major aircraft purchases until it reaches its profit margin goals, the carrier's chief executive Willie Walsh told Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

'Before we expand, we have to be confident that we can achieve an operating profit margin of 10 pct,' Walsh told the newspaper.

'In 2005-2006 we achieved an operating profit of 8.3 pct, so I assume that we will achieve the 10 pct target by March, 2008.

Walsh also said British Airways may purchase some of EADS's Airbus A380 aircraft to replace its Boeing 747s in the future.
